Week 9- October 1- October 5

Happy End of the Week! Thank you sooo much for all the sweet birthday wishes and gifts! I feel so spoiled and incredibly blessed to have such amazing families to love and support me!

Spalding:  We have officially taught the first 26 phonogram and we will take this week to review what we have learned so far. Since we have taught the whole alphabet students are expected to know the names and sounds for each letter of the alphabet.  We are still working on identifying the sounds and syllables of words. The way homework is executed will be changing this week! Click here to watch how homework is performed.
Sight Words: For the next couple weeks we will be reviewing sight word list 1-3. This week we will be reviewing all the words on list 1. Please practice at home in addition to the nightly homework.
Literature:  Our story this week is another of Aesop’s Fables, the Grasshopper and the Ant.  Students have enjoyed hearing these stories and identifying the moral. Our poem for the week is Once I Saw a Little Bird.  Our Saying for October: The early bird gets the worm.  This week we will also begin pulling students to check reading levels for Reading Groups.  Books will be sent home after Parent Teacher Conferences. Reading groups will start after fall break and we will be sending out a Sign Up Genius for interested parents.  Reading Groups will be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Math:

We will finish our unit on number order.  This week we will be writing numbers in order forward and backward.  Students will be able to write the missing numbers 1-10.  An assessment will be given on Friday.
History and Geography: This week we will continue to explore the continent of North America. Students will learn more about Canada and Mexico. We will get to try some snacks from these countries as well as make a craft and learn a dance! Later in the week, we will begin a unit on plants. The kiddos will plant their own bean seed and watch it grow over the coming weeks. They will be introduced to a famous botanist named George Washington Carver.
