Week 12- October 29- November 2

What a beautiful weekend! I had the opportunity to go see the Sleeping Beauty ballet; it was amazing!
Happy Birthday to Rohit!

I am so excited for the upcoming week. Wednesday is our annual Read-A-Thon day at Arete. Your child may come to school dressed as their favorite character from a classical book or as a historical figure. Please remember, no pop culture characters will be permitted on this day. If you have not done so already, please send me an email with your costume proposal. Scholastic book orders will be placed at 8am on Tuesday. Thank you to the families that joined us for the Barnes and Noble book fair this Saturday! I had a lot of fun reading.

Spalding: This week we will continue to learn two letter phonograms adding one new phonogram on each night of homework. We will introduce oo, ay, ar, er. We will practice recognizing these phonograms in words and continue to review the first 30 phonograms.

Sight Words: Review list two (he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, I).

Literature: This week will explore two more of Aesop’s Fables, “The Lion and the Mouse,” and “The Stork and the Fox.”  We will dive into the morals of each story and identify the story elements. Our poem will be Diddle Diddle Dumpling.

Math:
Students will work through different patterns.  They will identify shapes that can be used to make patterns.  They will also use colors and orientation to extend patterns.  An assessment will be taken on Friday.

Science: It’s pumpkin week in science! Students will explore pumpkins using their five senses. We will investigate and experiment with a real pumpkin by touching, tasting, smelling, hearing, and looking. Students will learn all about the life cycle of a pumpkin, from seed to round orange pumpkin.
