I cannot wait for our field trip to the Odysea on Wednesday! Please remember to pack a lunch for your child to enjoy in our classroom when we get back; there will be no hot lunch on Wednesday for kinder. Library books are due! Please send your child to school with their checked out library book to be returned.
Here's a look at this week:
Spalding: We
will continue review our phonograms while adding the last of our 70 phonograms
to nightly homework. We will have five words this week that are similar, the
only thing that will change is the vowel; big, bag, beg, bog, bug. Our
other five words will be: mother, three, land, cold, hot. Note there will
be no homework on Wednesday since we anticipate your kiddos will be tired after
our field trip.
Sight Words: This
week we will introduce list 8, that means we have learned 80 sight words!
Literature:This week we will
explore two Japanese folktales about courage, Momotaro: Peach Boy and
Issun-Boshi :The One Inch Boy. We will compare the characters and talk about
the qualities of a hero. Our Poem will be “My Nose."
Math: We
will be practicing the order of numbers from 1- 40 this week. We will
work with place value counting groups of tens and ones. Homework will
consist of writing numbers 1-40, and counting up to achieve numbers 1-40.
Geography and History: This week we will continue to learn
about the continent of Africa. Students will learn all about the fun and unique
animals that live there. We will discuss in depth about giraffes, lions, and
zebras. Students will get to create a craft of their favorite African animals.
On Friday, scholars will be introduced to an important scientist, Jane Goodall.
She spent much of her life studying chimps in Africa so we will explore them as
well! Students will learn the difference between apes and monkeys.
